Each thermometer is mounted in a square shaped shatter-proof plastic bottle filled with a liquid or vermiculite to insure accurate readings, despite opening and closing of instrument doors. Each thermometer has its own unique serial number, and has been tested against a standard calibrated at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). A certificate of accuracy is supplied with the thermometer, making its indications traceable to NIST.
