Disposable plastic culture tubes provide superior performance and reliability. Tubes have printed graduations and white marking area. Ready-to-use tubes are precision-molded from virgin thermoplastics and are uniform in size and shape. Chemically clean tubes have a unique gate design and molding process which eliminates the costly and frustrating problem of side-wall cracking or pin hole leaks. Choice of clear polystyrene tubes (non-autoclavable) or natural polypropylene. Polystyrene tubes withstand prolonged heating and centrifugation speeds up to approximately 3000 rpm or 1400 rcf, with no danger of glass activation during testing. Aqueous solutions of mild bases and weak acids are withstood, but organic solvents, aromatic or chlorinated hydrocarbons, etc., are not. Polypropylene culture tubes are translucent, and practically unbreakable. These will withstand G-forces in centrifuging, will contain most common acids, alkalies, and solvents, and are autoclavable to 121°C (caps are polyethylene and not autoclavable).
