Activated charcoal impregnated into each disposable charcoal disk absorbs the volatile 35S radioactive component before it can escape from the petri dish during metabolic labelling. The sterilized disk is placed inside the lid of the 100 mm petri dish used for labelling. After use, disks are disposed of in regular beta waste containers.
